Chapter 7: Never giving up
Educated women were considered a taboo in the family. Her mother used to hide her books and
newspapers from her father and brothers. Her mother would always lift her up whenever she was let
down by the men of their family. Her mother always used to tell her how she herself always dreamt of
becoming someone who would accomplish and prosper and how she got a second chance at life the day
she held her dear daughter in her arms for the first time. She was always discouraged to study and
move forward by the men, but her mother was not giving up. Breaking the barriers and taboos, she got
her daughter admitted in the best college, despite all the opposition and problems. The day she went on
her first flight, it was her mother who was their to cherish her and to smile at her with pride. Her
mother’s tired less efforts beared fruit that day when she saw her daughter in the pilot’s uniform and
she became the first woman pilot of Pakistan.
